Shehbaz Sharif addresses farewell function held in honour of Chinese Consul General

Lahore, December 20, 2016 (PPI-OT):A farewell function was held in the honour of Chinese Consul General Yu Boren at a local hotel, here today. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the function, Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said that Punjab government has made unprecedented progress for achieving the targets of economic development under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

He said that development of infrastructure, education, health and other social sectors has resulted in raising living standard of people of the province. He said that during his appointment here, he has observed unprecedented development in Punjab during the last two years and added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab has made rapid economic progress and people are benefitting from the fruits of development. He said that development projects are being speedily completed in the province and ongoing projects under CPEC are forwarded speedily.

He said that speedy implementation of development projects is named “Punjab Speed” in China and the honour of Punjab Speed is the result of untiring and outstanding performance of Shehbaz Sharif. He said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor reflects development vision of the leadership of both the countries. He said that lasting relation of friendship between Pakistan and China exists and a new era of economic relations of both the countries has usher in.

He said that bilateral cooperation in education, health and other sectors has increased between the provinces of Punjab and China and the role of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is appreciable with regard to enhancing economic ties of both the countries. He said that Chief Minister Punjab has sent a delegation of girl and boy students to China for learning Chinese language and this step will help understand culture of each other. Yu Boren said that he has observed increasing economic cooperation between Punjab and China in different sectors during his two years tenure here and bilateral cooperation has also increased due to the visits of Chief Minister Punjab to China.

He thanked Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab government on extending cooperation in setting up of Chinese consulate in Lahore. He said that he cannot forget his two years spent in Punjab and he is going back with pleasant memories. The love, sincerity and cooperation of people of Pakistan especially Punjab will be remembered forever, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that today, we are participating in a farewell function held in the honour of our great and sincere friend Chinese Consul General Yu Boren.

We are sad on departure of our friend from here however, satisfied and happy over his role for increasing Pak-China friendship and promoting economic cooperation of two countries. We also pray for his bright future, he added. Shehbaz Sharif said that Yu Boren has played an exemplary role in strengthening the relations of both the countries and transforming these ties into economic bonds. He said that we have succeeded in speedy implementation of power projects only due to the cooperation of Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Sun Weidong and Chinese Consul General Yu Boren.

He said that generation of 1320 megawatt electricity will be started from Sahiwal Coal Power Plant next year and this is the only project of the world which is being completed in a very short period. He said that Yu Boren has worked very hard for enhancing bilateral cooperation and that is why, both Pakistani and Chinese friends are sad on his going back from here. We are not only friends but brothers, he added. He said that Yu Boren has worked more than his duties for enhancing economic cooperation and we salute his determination and cooperation.

He said that the journey of bilateral economic cooperation covered during his two years tenure has never been observed by him during his political career. He said that we will never forget him. He expressed good wishes for him and said that he is our friend and will remain friend forever. Shehbaz Sharif said that China has made investment of 51 billion dollar in Pakistan under China Pakistan Economic Corridor and CPEC is part of “One Belt, One Road” vision of Chinese President Xi Jinping and a guarantee to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.

He said that there is a need to learn from this great vision and model of Chinese leadership. He said One Belt One Road is a proof to the fact that the countries come closer due to economic cooperation. He said that promotion of economic cooperation, elimination of poverty and reducing difficulties is only vision of prosperity and One Belt One Road is reflective of it. He said that due to the untiring hard work of Chinese leadership, China has become the second biggest economic power of the world and Chinese nation has also made great achievement of bringing 700 million persons out of poverty.

He said that China has made great progress due to solid economic policies, hard work and diplomacy of Chinese leadership. The Chief Minister said that he salutes this vision and sagacity of Chinese President and added that we also have to move forward by adopting the model of China. He said that Pak-China friendship is everlasting and China has extended full cooperation to Pakistan in launching mega projects. He said that despite legal challenges in Orange Line Metro Train Project, China has extended full cooperation, upon which, he is thankful to Chinese leadership.

Shehbaz Sharif said that despite case of some places regarding cultural asset in Orange Line Metro Train Project is in the court, China has continued its cooperation. He said that historic investment package is expression of full confidence by Chinese leadership in the government and leadership of Pakistan and a proof to love with the people of Pakistan.

He said that Chinese leadership and government have reposed confidence in us and we will come up to their expectations and spare no effort in enhancing bilateral economic cooperation. Provincial Ministers Begum Zakia Shahnawaz and Chaudhary Sher Ali Khan, Chinese Consul General Yu Boren, Members National and Provincial Assembly, senior officials of Punjab government, heads of Chinese companies, Chinese investors, Vice Chancellors, office-bearers of Consulate and a large number of people belonging to various walks of life attended the meeting.
