Shawl hands over petition to slough MP Fiona Mactaggart

Srinagar, May 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of International Chamber for Peace and Conciliation Kashmir Concern, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl has handed over a petition signed by over 4,000 constituents belonging to Slough constituency to Fiona Mactaggart, MP for Slough, in her office.
Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl was heading a delegation comprising Mohammed Ayub Khan, President, Advisory Council, Raja Gulistan Khan, Trustee of Diamond Mosque Slough, Raja Rab Nawaz, President, Muslim League-N, Slough, Advocate Farooq Khan, President, Muslim Conference, Slough, Advocate Sardar Shakeel Ahmed, Sardar Amjad Abbasi and Shoaib Nazish, media advisor.

The International Chamber for Peace and Conciliation Kashmir Concern in a statement issued in London said that Fiona Mactaggart welcomed and assured the delegation that she would make all-out efforts along with her colleagues to ensure the parliamentary debate on human rights situation in occupied Kashmir. She also informed the community leaders that she was taking up the abolition of death penalty and a moratorium on the punishment with the Indian High Commissioner along with her colleagues, it stated.

The statement said that Professor Shawl informed her about the Urgency Resolution passed by the European Parliament on the judicial murder of Kashmiri youth, Muhammad Afzal Guru, and requested for a similar resolution in the British Parliament.

The statement maintained that Professor Shawl earlier briefed her about the purpose of the nation-wide petition. He also told her that the Great Britain being friend of both India and Pakistan could facilitate a useful input in making a tripartite dialogue amongst India, Pakistan and Kashmiris productive and meaningful.

Mohammed Ayub thanked Fiona Mactaggart for her cooperation and sparing time.
