Islamabad: A seminar on “Pakistani Multinationals and effect on their business after joining Madrid System for international registration of Trademarks by Pakistan was held at LCCI, under the auspices of Intellectual Property Organization. The event was attended by heads of different enterprises and representatives of government organizations.

Addressing on the occasion, Chairman IPO-Pakistan Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that consultation process is in progress to discuss whether Pakistan may sign or not the Madrid System and in this connection stakeholders were being provided adequate opportunities to deliberate on the subject. He said business community is well aware about the present economic situation of the country and now the stakeholders have to decide what is beneficial for them as well as for the country.

It was stated that “Madrid System for Registration of Trade Marks offer an attractive route for small and medium-size enterprises SME’s to protect their trademarks in all sectors to enhance their global competitiveness.

Director General IPO-Pakistan Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta said that all efforts were being made to keep the stakeholders on board so that they could thoroughly discuss the advantage and disadvantage of Madrid System.

LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that the registration of trademark and identification was of great importance for doing business in the world marketplace in particular. He said better knowledge and clear understanding of these concepts can lead the country to a stage where the businessmen can not only secure the trademarks but also develop genuine businesses in a country which is fully competitive in the international market.
