Scaffolding collapsed during construction work at Tarbela 4th Project

Lahore, July 03, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has been carrying out construction work round-the-clock under accelerated programme to complete the 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project. As concrete pouring was going on at the site last night, the scaffolding for concrete work downstream of Unit No. 17 collapsed at about 11.

The rescue operation was immediately started at site. Unfortunately, two Chinese and two Pakistanis died in the incident, while four others including two Chinese injured. The injured were taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Tarbela, of them, one Chinese whose condition was critical has been shifted to Islamabad. WAPDA Chairman has asked the project authorities to submit a detailed report within three days about the reasons for collapse of the scaffolding at site.
