Saudi Minister for Information and Culture Calls on Prime Minister

Islamabad: Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Mohayyuddin Khoja, Minister for Information and Culture, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here at the PM House today and thanked the government of Pakistan for invitation extended to him to visit Pakistan.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Saudi Minister for Information and Culture to his second home, Pakistan, adding that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia shared commonalities in culture, religion, and history and their bilateral relations were based on Islamic brotherhood.

The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to the outstanding contribution of Saudi King His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdul aziz for espousing the cause of interfaith dialogue and harmony the world over. He also highly appreciated the Saudi King for his personal appeal he made for the assistance of flood victims in Pakistan. “Pakistanis have always looked up to their brethren in Saudi Arabia during difficult times,” the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister thanked the government of Saudi Arabia for starting Urdu news bulletin on state-run TV. He said that this would keep the 1.5 million strong expatriate community of Pakistan abreast of developments taking place both in the world as well as in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the early finalization of Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, adding that third round of talks should be held at the earliest in this regard. He said that immense trade potential existed between both countries, which should be realized for their mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of signing Bilateral Investment Treaty between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which would open up new vistas of trade and investment between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of people-to-people contact and high level exchanges, which were essential to further cement relations on durable basis.

The Prime Minister urged that the academic institutions should hold spoken Arabic classes to facilitate communication between both countries. He also extended his invitation to the Imam of Kaba through the visiting Saudi Minister so that the Imam could appeal to the Muslims to shun differences and promote harmony and tolerance, which are the basis of our great religion.

The Prime Minister extended his warmest greetings and wishes to His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdul aziz, His Royal Highness Crown Prince and brotherly people of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister for Information and Culture, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, thanked the Prime Minister for providing him an opportunity to visit Pakistan. He said that King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz was pleased to know that he was proceeding to Pakistan on the invitation of the Pakistani government.

The Saudi Minister said that Information Ministries of both countries and Saudi Arabia should cooperate with each other and pool their resources to promote the real image of Islam by using modern media techniques.

The Minister further assured that he would use his good offices with the government to accede to Pakistan’s request for sending Imam of Kaba to Pakistan. He conveyed his best wishes of His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz to the Prime Minister.

Federal Minister for Information Dr Ferdous Ashiq Awan and senior officers of the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
