Sargodha Industrial Park Launched

Lahore, December 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Federal Production Minister Ch. Anwar Ali Cheema has announced that a 10 Megawatt independent power unit at Sargodha Industrial Park (SIP) would be established soon while all other industrial parks being developed by the Ministry would have more such power units.

The Minister was speaking at the inauguration of Sargodha Industrial Park on Tuesday. Ch. Anwar Ali Cheema said that 10 MW independent power Unit being established at SIP is a part of bigger plan that has been devised by the Federal government to ensure un-interrupted electricity to the industry.

The Minister said that Rs.7.5 billions have so far been spent on different development projects like construction of roads, provision of gas to 32 localities, establishment of medical college and a university in Sargodha.

About SIP, the Minister said that the objective to establish this project was to provide one window facilities to the industrialists and the investors of the region. He hoped that Rs.3billion investment would be made in this industrial park and it would create 20,000 job opportunities directly.

The Minister said that unlike others he had planned projects in all parts of the country which would create job opportunities and help increase GDP of the country instead of focusing on his constituency alone.

The Regional Director North, National Industrial Parks, Mohsin Sayed, said that the Sargodha Industrial Park is being established on an area of 100 acres in the vicinity of Sargodha City for systematic and organized industrial growth to capitalize the local skills and expertise available.

He said that 50 acres of land would be developed in the first phase and the remaining will be done in the second phase. The purpose is to create employment opportunities in the local cottage industry of Bakelite Switches, Tractor Crank Shaft, Fruit Processing, Rice Husking, Daal Mills, Fruit Juices and other Small / Medium industries, he said.

The NIP director, Mohsin Sayed appreciated the services rendered by the secretary Ministry of production Gul Muhammad Rind and CEO PIDC Khalid Mahmood Chadda to put this project on ground.

It is envisaged that the Sargodha Industrial Park will act as a catalyst to rejuvenate industrial activity in the area and help reduce poverty. There is a need to create jobs and to raise the average income levels in the country by setting up similar Industrial Parks in other parts of the country.

The industry is facing severe power shortage and is forced to close their operations due to power break downs. This Industrial Park will have its own captive power generation to facilitate the resident industry. The power required by the industry will be generated from municipal, agricultural waste and coal.

This will make the park self sufficient for its electricity needs. New Industrial estates and parks to be developed should have their own power generation units for uninterrupted power supply to the end users.
