S. M. Muneer meets CEO of Halal Development Council (Pakistan) and International Halal Centre (UAE) regarding Why Pakistan still could not get its share in the Global Halal Economy

Karachi, December 06, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Chief Executive TDAP, Mr. S. M. Muneer met with Mr. Asad Sajjad CEO of Halal Development Council (Pakistan) and International Halal Centre (UAE) regarding Why Pakistan still could not get its share in the Global Halal Economy.

The global Halal Food market alone is more than USD600 per annum and the total Halal market including food and non-food products is over USD 3 trillion per annum. India is now the largest Halal meat exporter in the world and Thailand being the largest Halal product exporter with over 125,000 halal certified products, almost 80 – 85% of this trillion dollar turnover is in the hands of non-Muslim countries that enjoy the commercial benefit of the Halal market.

Many new comers are now entering this market, including Muslim and non-Muslim countries, who are working on a clear strategy on how to use the brand Halal to their advantage and get a share for their countries from this trillion dollar market, but Pakistan despite being one of the biggest Muslim country and having the largest product base amongst all Muslim counties is still standing at the same place with No clear strategy of what to do and how to do to get Pakistan a substantial share in Global Halal Economy.

Important issues were discussed in the meeting at TDAP on Pakistani market situation and it was determined that the major factor that has stopped Pakistan’s growth in Halal economy is Lack of Awareness, Asad Sajjad CEO of Halal Development Council (Pakistan) and International Halal Centre (UAE) said in meeting that Lack of Awareness regarding Power of Halal Brand in the world, Lack of Awareness regarding importance of Halal Certification and Lack of Awareness regarding dangers of self declaration of HALAL.. Some of the measures that should be taken by the government of Pakistan include:

Pakistan should focus on Halal Products and not only Halal meat as the global Halal Economy includes both for and non-food products that form the 3 trillion dollar turnover. A “Halal Pakistan” brand to be developed and used to promote Pakistani Halal products in the world. Ministry of Commerce should make a clear strategy on how to take Pakistan forward in the Halal economy and get the economic benefit for Pakistan.

TDAP should monitor the newly formed Pakistan Halal Authority, to focus its efforts on export promotion of Pakistani Halal Certified products in the world. Under TDAP supervision, Pakistan Halal Authority should develop Halal Industrial Parks, to invite foreign companies to put up their plants in these Halal parks.

TDAP should subsidise the Halal Certification fees for all Pakistani companies who want to certify for export purpose. TDAP should also participate in specialised Halal exhibitions to promote the already halal certified products of Pakistan. Other important issues were also discussed in the meeting about present global situation other efforts that TDAP can take to motivate exporters to benefits of world Halal economy
