Rs 300mn grant released for tanneries zone

SIALKOT: The Punjab government has released a special grant of Rs. 300 million for establishing small industrial estate-cum-tanneries zone with total cost of Rs. 400 million on 384 acres of land near Sialkot for shifting there as many as 268 small and big sized tanneries from Sialkot city at its out skirts, with a sole aim to purge the Sialkot environment from tanneries’ pollution.

According to official sources, the provincial government would provide the joint water treatment plant, land fill land, chrome recovery plants and other relevant facilities there in this small industrial estate-cum-tanneries zone to lure the Sialkot tanners to ensure early shifting of their tanneries there, which are scattered in and around the Sialkot city, causing massive environmental pollution there.
