Protesters subjected to force in Khrew; several injured

Srinagar, April 03, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several people were injured when Indian police used brute force on peaceful protesters in Pulwama district. People took to the streets in Khrew area of the district and staged anti-India demonstrations. The police fired pallets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters.

Fifteen people were injured in the police action. Two youth, Gowher Ahmed Sheikh, and Iqbal Ahmad Sheikh, received grievous injuries in their eyes and were shifted to New Delhi for specialized treatment while four other injured persons were removed to Srinagar.

The residents said that the troops of Indian Central Reserve Police Force barged into the residential houses, thrashed the inmates including women, ransacked the household goods and broke the windowpanes. Later, the authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in the area to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the brutalities of the police.
