Prime Minister directs early LNG import to meet energy requirements
Islamabad: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Tuesday directed for early import of Liquefied Natural Gas LNG to meet energy requirements in the country.
Chairing a meeting here, he asked Port Qasim Authority to take all necessary measures for handling the bulk import of LNG for power generation in the country on emergent basis.
Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain said 500 MCCF imported gas will be utilized to generate 2500MW electricity. A separate pipeline is being laid for shifting gas from Port Qasim Authority to Punjab province.
Chairman Port Qasim Authority spoke of plans to construct three additional terminals to cope with handling import of such huge quantity of LNG. PQA is already working for developing jetty and terminal facilities to handle LNG import.
