Prime Minister calls for strengthening ties with Kuwait

Islamabad, May 13, 2015 (PPI-OT): Speaker of Kuwaiti National Assembly, Mr. Marzouq Al-Ghanim met Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the PM House there today. Talking to him the Prime Minister said Pakistan wishes to strengthen bilateral ties with Kuwait and increase cooperation in all fields. He recalled the visit of Kuwaiti Prime Minister who visited Pakistan soon after the PML-N government took office, which served to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister briefed him about the parliamentary democratic system in Pakistan and the system of elections at each level. He said democratic institutions are gaining roots in the country and government is taking important decisions in consultation with all stakeholders.

He said due to the policies of the government economy is now being turn around and key economic indicators have become positive, though the country still faces huge challenges like energy and terrorism. He said tangible steps are being taken to meet these challenges effectively in the shortest possible time. The Prime Minister also invited Kuwaiti investment in Pakistan especially in the field of energy.

Mr. Marzouq Al-Ghanim conveyed greetings from the Amir, Crown Prince of Kuwait and Prime Minister of Kuwait to the Prime Minister. He regarded the last visit of Speaker Mr. Ayaz Sadiq as very helpful in strengthening bilateral ties. He said Kuwaiti Interior Minister would visit Pakistan soon to discuss important matters of bilateral cooperation.

Speaker Kuwait National Assembly said Kuwait also wants to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in health sector. Currently, he said, there are 200 Pakistani doctors working in Kuwait performing their duties well. Soon Kuwait would also recruit few hundred retired security personnel from Pakistan, who would contribute towards country’s defence, he said.

He also gave the Prime Minister a brief overview of the system of elections and working of democratic institutions in Kuwait. Matters relating to regional situation also came under discussion. The Prime Minister also asked him to convey his greetings to the Amir, Crown Prince and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. Speaker National Assembly, Mr. Ayaz Sadiq; SAPM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi also attended the meeting along with other senior government officials.
