President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry regrets that vested interests have hijacked Chief Minister Punjab’s initiative against fake medicines

Lahore, August 17, 2015 (PPI-OT): President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ijaz A. Mumtaz has regretted that the vested interests have hijacked the Chief Minister’s initiative against fake medicines. In a statement issued here, the LCCI President said that these vested interests have successfully managed to shift the focus of the Chief Minister towards genuine pharma manufacturers who have nothing to do with fake medicine business.

Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that the drug act 1976 is a complete code of conduct to ensure provision of quality medicines to the masses as it has all the ingredients to control spread of fake medicines. However, the amendments introduced in this act have strengthened the hands of wrong doers. The LCCI president said that there was a dire need to put the manufacturers of fake medicines behind the bars but it is believed that the recently introduced legislation by the provincial government would not be doing any considerable service to the pharmaceutical sector.

He said that it is like that instead of launching operation against illegal arms, the authorities start twisting the arms of license holders of arms. Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that no licensed pharmaceutical manufacturer could ever think of putting his hard earned money at stake for short gains. It is, therefore, appealed to the government to identify the culprits involved in spurious drug business to weed out the menace of fake medicines once for all.
