PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Qaim Ali shah hands over land Documents to Chinese united energy group wind project

Karachi, May 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that China and Pakistan are two friendly countries having cordial relations since long time and it is very encouraging that after Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, with the efforts of President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari had enhanced socio-economic cooperation for the benefit of people of both countries. This he observed while addressing Land Award Ceremony of UEG 500 MW Wind Project, held at C.M House this evening.

He said that due to frequent inter-country visits between Pakistan and China, various Chinese firms are coming ahead for investment and the Project initiated today will pave ways for prosperity development.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that further strengthening relations in all fields, the Sindh Government has started Chinese learning classes which will be a successful efforts to provide facilities of latest technologies to each others.

The Chairman of the United Energy Group Mr. ZHANG HONG WEI thanked the cooperation of Sindh Government particularly the Chief Minister Sindh for cooperation with regard to allotment of land for UEP wind energy Project. He said that United Energy Group is one of the leading energy sector investors in Pakistan, particularly in the province of Sindh.

He said that the Primary focus of UEG is on exploration and production of oil and gas and the company have strong foot hold in eight districts of Sindh province. He further said that UEG’s assets consists of 9- producing and exploration blocks in Sindh and four offshore exploration blocks in the Arabian sea.

Mr. WEI added that as per the commitment with Government of Sindh during the visit of office at delegation to Beijing in November 2011 and with continuous efforts by Sindh Board of Investment, United Energy has been able to commence work on 150 MW wind power project located in Thatta and Jamshoro districts, for which land has been allocated today.

He added that the project will be enhanced upto the 500 MW, for which all the feasibility study work has been undertaken including the environmental impact studies, grid connectivity, soil testing as well as the technical layout and design of the wind farm in one year time and will be in a position to commission by the year 2014.

Chairman SBI Mr. Zubair Motiwala while providing details of the project said that the second phase of 350 MW will be initiated for which UEG has already signed on LOI with the Alternative Energy Development Board of Pakistan. Sindh Secretary of BOI Ms. Naheed S. Durrani also highlighted the objectives of the Project.

Later, the ceremony of handing over of land lease agreement documents was held. Chief Minister Sindh and Chinese delegation also exchanged gifts. The Ceremony was attended among others by Chairman Sindh Revenue Board Mr. Nazar Hussain Mehar, Provincial Secretaries of Environment, Mir Hussain Ali, Coal, Sohail Rajput Principal Secretary, to C.M Agha Jan Akhter Member Land Utilization BOR and others.
