PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Industry can save Rs200 million through energy conservation

Karachi, June 04, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Secretary Environment, Sindh Mir Husain Ali has urged the consumers to go on new technologies like LED for energy conservation and save expenditure on industrial, commercial and residential electricity.

Speaking as chief guest at Energy Conservation seminar on the eve of World Environment Day organized by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) in coordination with KESC, he said that industrialists should approach federal government for the project of combined effluent treatment plants (CETP) in the industrial zones in Karachi. He said that the first ever CETP is being run successfully under the supervision of Gulzar Firoz.

He said that KESC is actively participating in environmental and energy conservation programs in order to create awareness among the consumers. He also praised the efforts of KATI in organizing environmental activities in Korangi Industrial Area.

In his welcome address Chairman KATI Ehtesham Uddin said that industrialists are all pout to adopt energy conservation methods and adopt new technologies including LED in order to make their units viable considering the energy crisis and skyrocketing prices of energy.

He said that energy crisis and ever increasing prices have almost rendered the industry unviable and the exporters are unable to compete in the international markets due to exorbitant cost of gas, electricity and POL.

He expressed his dismay over the levy if infrastructure tax on CNG which is meant for a big burden on industry. He announced to form an Energy Conservation Committee led by Salimuz Zaman in order to create energy conservation awareness among the industrialists.

Director Energy Conservation KESC, Asif Husain Sidiqui said that it’s high time for the consumers and industrialists to adopt and procure new technologies of energy conservation. He said that if the industrialists adopt energy conservation plans as suggested by KESC they could well save Rs200 million annually which are being wasted due to non-awareness. He said that KESC has signed MOU with the local builders and developers for adopting new methods of energy conservation in their upcoming projects.

He said that KESC is working on energy conservation plans for the last three years. He later on gave away the presentation on energy conservation and exhibited LED lights. Former Chairman Kati Gulzar Firoz and Salimuz Zaman also spoke on the occasion.
