PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Halal Food – Pakistan can be a Halal Hub in Future

Lahore, June 04, 2012 (PPI-OT): Workshop on Halal Food Management has been started today in Local Hotel (Pearl Continental) Lahore in which many constituents including Dr. Winai Dahlan, Founder and Director of The Halal Science Centre – Thailand, Dr. Mian Nadeem Riaz, Director Food protein R and D Centre, A and M University – U.S.A, Muhammad Zubair Mughal, Chief Executive Officer – Halal Research Council, Dr. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Director General – National Institute of Food Science and Technology – University of Agriculture – Faisalabad, Justice Khalil ur Rehman, Shari’ah Advisor – AlBaraka Islamic Bank participated whereas the workshop was jointly organized by Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company – Govt. of the Punjab, The Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), the Pakistan Society of Food Scientists and Technologists, The National Institute of Food Science and Technology – University of agriculture and Halal Research Council.

While addressing to the inaugural session of the workshop, Mr. Justice Khalil ur Rehman said that the research on Halal food is very much needed globally so that Muslims could have food which is free from Haram ingredients which is the basic need of our religion. He further added that awareness regarding Halal Food is very much needed in the country.

While addressing to the inaugural session, Mr. Nasib Ahmed Saifi, Chairman – Standing Committee on Halal Meat Export, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said that Pakistan has many opportunities for the export of Halal Meat but due to the direct export of Livestock, Halal meat Exports are badly affected. He said that due to export of Livestock, 12 Industries including Leather and gelatine industry are badly affected.

Dr. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Director General – National Institute of Food science and Technology, University of Agriculture – Faisalabad said that the arrangement of International training on Halal Food is commendable as it will not only provide the valuable information to the Food Scientists regarding Halal Concepts but they would also get advantage from the International best practices regarding this.

Dr. Winae Dahlan, Founder Director – Halal Science centre – Thailand said that Pakistan has an important place in Halal Industry due to its 97% Muslim population and its agro- economy enlightens and embosses its role in it. Dr. Nadeem Riaz, A and M University, Texas, U.S.A presented the international circumstances in detail regarding the awareness of Halal that how the Muslims are being pretended by using the Halal name wrongfully.

The Chief Executive Officer of Organizing Company, Halal Research Council said that Pakistan is being introducing as a Halal hub globally and by using the logo of Halal, its exports can be strongly boosted. He also said that Halal Research Council is also going to launch its online Post Graduate Diploma on Halal Industry which would be a unique program of its kind.
