People of Sindh are thankful to Iranian government for constructing a hospital at Keti Bandar: Chief Minister

Karachi, February 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the people of Sindh were thankful to Iranian government for constructing a hospital at Keti Bandar. “After Khairpur hospital, this is another gift of Iranian government for the people of Sindh for which the Iranian government owe a word of thanks.”

This he said while addressing the ceremony of signing of MOU among government of Sindh, Bonyad-e-Maskan of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan National Forum on Women health (PNFWH) here at the CM House. He said that the Iranian government was kind enough that keeping in view the devastation of floods of 2010 had started construction of a 130 bed hospital at Keti Banadar, Thatta at a cost of Rs130 million. The hospital consists of 130-beds, OPD, administrative units and other relevant portions and residential units.

The Bonyad-e-Maskan of Iranian government is also going to provide initial equipment for the hospital. The hospital would be taken over by Sindh government and then it would give it to Pakistan National Forum on Women health to operate the facility. The Sindh government would bear the expenditures of the operation of the hospital.

Minister Health Jam Mehtab Dahar lauded the efforts and commitment of Iranian Consul General Mr Mehdi Subhani that he made the project completed just to serve the people of rural areas of Thatta district. “This hospital would serve poor population of the entire belt,” he said.

Consul General of Iran Mr Mehdi Subhani said that the floods of 2010 had wreaked havoc in the entire Sindh, particularly in the tail-end. “The Iranian government wanted to play its due role help the people of poverty-stricken areas by proving them health facilities. But, it was the leadership of Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah who guided and supported to make the project take place,” he said.

Dr Sher Shah Syed of PNFWH thanked the chief minister and the health department for demonstrating confidence in his organization for running such a big hospital in Keti Bandar. “Your trust has not only developed more confidence in me but it has also put more responsibility on my shoulders to run the hospital in the supreme interest of poor people of tail-end more than what the government the expects,” he said.

The MoU was signed by Secretary Health Saeed Mangnijo on behalf of Sindh government, Mr Ahmed Fathi on behalf of Bonyad-e-Maskan of Iran and Dr Sher Shah on behalf of PNFWH. The chief minister, minister health Jam Mehtab, Minister Environment Dr Sikandar Mendhro, Principal Secretary to CM and others witnessed the signing ceremony.
