PDP-BJP regime booked 82 under PSA in one year: Gilani

Srinagar, December 27, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani condemning the slapping of draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) on Hurriyet leaders has said that 82 political activists and students have been booked under this law by the present regime.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar, said, denounced the slapping of the black law on Tehreek-e-Hurriyet (TeH) leader Abdul Ghani Butt of Sopore said, “Before elections, PDP had assured that they would face the pro-freedom leadership on political turf and would not keep anybody behind the bars. They would all be allowed to present their viewpoint. But since the inception of PDP-BJP regime in the territory, all their claims have proved to be hoax.”

“The regime has virtually banned the peaceful political activities of the pro-freedom camp particularly political activists of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet and police are continuously following our members and activists. Detaining them under baseless charges has become a norm.”

“Only in a last one month five Tehreek-e-Hurriyet activists were detained under the PSA and today another key Tehreek-e-Hurriyet leader Abdul Ghani Butt was also detained under this black law,” he added.

PSA is an oppressive and cruel law which was introduced in 1978 by then National Conference regime and it was meant for dealing with forest smugglers, he pointed out. “But later this law was unabatedly used against the pro-freedom people in the territory, which continues in 2015 also,” he deplored. He demanded immediate release of all the prisoners detained under the PSA including Abdul Ghani Butt and others.
