Palestinian president briefs Japanese envoy on outcome of recent political moves

Ramallah (IINA) � Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met here on Wednesday with Masaharu Kohno, Japan’s envoy for the peace process in the Middle East

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the Japanese envoy on the outcome of the recent political moves, especially after meetings with US President Donald Trump in Washington and Bethlehem.

Abbas affirmed the keenness of the Palestinian leadership to strengthen the relations with Japan. He commended the support extended by Japan for the Palestinian people to build their institutions and economy, especially the project of Al-Salam Road, which is being implemented in the city of Jericho with generous support from the Japanese government.

In turn, the Japanese envoy stressed his country’s keenness to support the political process based on the principle of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He also confirmed Japan’s readiness to play a greater political role to push forward the peace process.

Further, Kohno underscored Japan’s continued support for the Palestinian economy and state institution-building, as well as its keenness to develop friendly relations with Palestine.
