Pakistan Tanners Association hosts dinner-reception in honour of Gulzar Firoz on his election as vice president Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Karachi, May 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman and Executive Committee of Pakistan Tanners Association hosted dinner-reception in honour of Mr. Gulzar Firoz on his un-opposed election as Vice President, FPCCI in Calton Hotel, Karachi. Mr. S.M. Muneer graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

The function attended by Mr. Abid Akber Javed, Chief Executive, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Mr. Shaheen Ilyas Sarwana, Vice President, FPCCI, Zubair Chhaya, Chairman, KATI and a large number of PTA’s members.

Mr. Abid Akbar Javed. Chief Executive, TDAP announced on the occasion to sponsor Pakistan’s first-ever Mega Leather Show scheduled to be held in Lahore Expo Centre during January’2014.. He further said that TDAP would facilitate leather industry and support with a proactive approach to overcome chronic stagnation of this important sector, which is third largest foreign exchange earning industry of the country with annual exports of $1.05 billion.

He added that leather sector has potential to increase its exports by 100 percent in next three years and TDAP would provide all possible assistance to the leather sector to achieve this target. He also assured of TDAP’s help to the exporters to focus on exploring the market for Pakistani value-added leather items. He congratulated Royal Leather Industries Ltd, one of the bonafide members of PTA for winning the Asia Highly Commended Award and Runner-up Award after Japan in the Tannery of the Year Award in Asia during APLF-2013, Hong Kong held recently.

Mr. Gulzar Firoz, newly elected, Vice President, FPCCI while speaking on the occasion said that power outages have affected badly production of leather industry and exports have severely come down. He demanded of the government to get the leather sector exempted from all types of load shedding. He appealed to the TDAP chief executive to adopt Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) as its management is facing extremely difficult to run it due to financial constraints.

Mr. S M Muneer, Former Chairman, PTA pointed out on the occasion that the issue of subsidy on laboratory test in leather industry, which was borne by TDAP and then withdrawn later on. He asked the TDAP chief executive to restore this facility as industry has no state of the art facility of material testing. He also demanded to reconstitute the board of directors of TDAP so that its affairs could be run smoothly.

Mr. S.M. Muneer pointed out that unabated export of young goats and cows. He called for immediate ban on this immoral practice and also requested the chief executive to hold monthly meetings with the stakeholders to discuss ways and means for export promotion. Mr. Amanullah Aftab, Chairman, PTA (Southern Zone) and Vice Chairman, PTA Central said that due to efforts of Mr. S.M. Muneer and former PTA Chairman, Mr. M. Khurshid Ahmed some developmental works were initiated by KMC and KWSB but unfortunately none of them has so far been completed.

He earnestly called for completion of such projects so that leather industry would be able to concentrate on exports. Mr. S.M. Muneer and Mr. Amanullah Aftab presented PTA’s crest to Mr. Gulzar Firoz as a token of felicitation and thanked Mr. Abid Akbar Javed and other participants for their present in this event.
