Pakistan mangoes exhibition in The Netherlands June 29
Karachi: The 8th edition of annual exhibition of Pakistani mangoes will be organized by Commercial Wing of Pakistan Embassy in The Netherlands with support of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan on June 29, 2011 at Chamber of Commerce The Hague.
There will be more than 10 varieties of Pakistani mangoes on display and available for tasting. A display of mangoes set up by Commercial Wing of the Embassy, 7 leading suppliers, exporters of mangoes from Pakistan will be showcasing their products. Visitors will include wholesalers, distributors, importers, retailers, chain stores dealing in fresh fruits and vegetables. Dignitaries from the Dutch Government and consumers especially from the Pakistani expatriate community are expected to visit the exhibition.
Pakistan is 6th largest producer of mangoes in the world and these are increasingly becoming popular in Dutch market. The Netherlands is an interesting market for Pakistani mangoes which are being imported by Dutch fresh produce importers and distributed to rest of Europe, besides Dutch market. Currently, Pakistani mangoes are being imported into Europe exclusively by air, there have been trial shipments of mangoes by sea. In 2010, Solfruit International Ridderkerk, imported a trial shipment of mango by sea with satisfactory results. Ten such shipments by sea have been planned for 2011.
The exhibition is aimed at showcasing different varieties of Pakistani mangoes for Dutch importers and wholesalers. Tariq Iqbal Puri, Chief Executive TDAP said The Netherlands is a gateway to Europe for fruits trade and is world’s second largest importer and re-exporter of mangoes. “In current year, we embarked on a comprehensive promotion plan for mango promotion which includes, a mango exhibition on 29 June in The Hague, an in-store promotion of mangoes in Hanos- one of largest chain stores in Europe specializing in restaurant supplies, visit of Pakistani fruits exporters delegation to The Netherlands.”
Speaking from The Hague, Aizaz Chaudhry, Ambassador of Pakistan said, “Pakistani mango is famous for its appealing colour, enticing aroma, delicious taste, but so far it is mainly consumed in South Asian ethnic segment of the market. However, there is a growing demand and consumption of Pakistani mangoes in mainstream market as well”.
Muhammad Ashraf, Commercial Counsellor said, “we are implementing aggressive marketing strategy to promote Pakistani mangoes in mainstream market. Exhibition is being organized as annual event in The Netherlands for last three years, to make it trade event to provide meeting platform for Pakistani mango exporters, importers. In last two years, exports of Pakistani mango to The Netherlands rose by 43%.”
