Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front welcomes Pakistan-Iran decision to continue with gas pipeline project

Lahore, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) on Monday welcomed Pak-Iran decision to continue with the gas pipeline project which is beneficial for the peoples of both countries.

In a statement issued here, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javaid said that the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani would go a long way in resolving all the matters which were creating hindrance in the project.

He said that their commitment to enhance the bilateral trade between the two countries and desire to enhance it to new levels of $5 billion would help bring the business community in the two countries closer to each other. This would enable them to share their strengths and weakness in the different sectors of the economy.

He said Pakistan Iran relations were bound by historical and religious linkages. Pakistan-Iran relations had historical connections. Apart from being neighbouring countries, both Muslim countries have the common traditions and relations.

The PIAF Chairman said that it was a long standing demand of the business community that the national interests should be given preference as far as the gas pipeline project was concerned and there were no two opinions that the completion of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline would not only give boost to economic activities but would also be doing a great help to the manufacturing sector.

He said that the business community appreciates the government for working tirelessly to ensure provision of electricity and terms the inauguration of solar and coal fired power projects as morale booster in true sense of the word.

Malik Tahir Javaid said that not only the investments in the domestic industry would now register a new surge but the foreign investors would also be getting a new confidence to make investments in Pakistan.

He said that the country’s economy suffered badly due to indifferent attitudes of the previous government towards the economic challenges. He said that since the present regime well understands that businesses facilitation was a prerequisite to progress and prosperity therefore the private sector would continue to supplement government efforts to this regard.
