Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front urges government to bring down electricity tariff for industrial consumers

Lahore, October 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has urged the government to bring down electricity tariff for industrial consumers as the industry would not be able to bear the hefty increase.

Addressing an emergent meeting of industrialists here on Monday, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javaid said that the government failure to rationalize industrial power tariff would give a deadly blow to the manufacturing sector and would turn the country into a trading place instead of a manufacturing hub.

He said that the government should identify its enemies in the bureaucracy and listen to the genuine grievances of the business community who was supplementing all government efforts aimed at economic revival of the country.

The PIAF Chairman said that the government should not act on the IMF dictates blindly at the cost of domestic industry. There is no use of getting loans if the private sector cannot perform with a peace of mind, he added.

Malik Tahir Javaid said that the business community for the last many years had been calling for the promotion of alternate energy resources but no attention was ever given towards this issue of national importance.

“When the industrial wheel would be at halt, the unemployment would automatically multiply as millions of industrial workers are working as daily wagers and it would give a bad name to the government.”

The PIAF Chairman said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif should review the situation and come to the rescue to the businessmen who are backbone of the economy.

He said that things were fast getting out of hands due to fast increasing prices of utilities against expectations as the businessmen were hopeful of a business friendly atmosphere during the present regime.

Malik Tahir Javed said that corruption and cronyism by the previous government had already pushed the country to the wall therefore, government should immediately announce withdrawal of increase in power rates in the larger interest of the economy and people of Pakistan.
