Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority receiving numerous complaints on illegal Indian content being aired on satellite TV channels

Islamabad, September 29, 2016 (PPI-OT):PEMRA is receiving numerous complaints on illegal Indian content being aired on satellite TV channels and distribution networks as well as through illegal Indian DTH. The complainants have shown serious concerns on this issue in the wake of current situation between India and Pakistan. Complainants have urged PEMRA to impose immediate ban on broadcast and distribution of illegal Indian content and illegal Indian DTH.

PEMRA has already issued directives on restricting illegal Indian content on Pakistani TV channels, distribution networks and on illegal Indian DTH. Considering the rising number of complaints against excessive Indian content on TV channels and airing of Indian channels through illegal DTH, it is appropriate that all the satellite TV channels and distribution networks follow the law of land and voluntarily discontinue all illegal activities immediately.

This will send a positive signal to the public about the satellite TV channels and distribution network’s commitment with rule of law and the country – about which a huge number of talk shows preach daily. PEMRA will take strict action according to law, after October 15, 2016.
