Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Nigeria: President

Islamabad, November 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): President Mamnoon Hussain has stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Nigeria and called for furthering bilateral cooperation to the mutual benefit of both the countries in the fields of agriculture, education, finance and defence.

The President said this while talking to Senator Alh. Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wammakko, Former Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Nigeria, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday. The President underscored the need for greater efforts to further enhance bilateral trade through frequent exchange of trade delegations in order to fully utilize tremendous potential in this field.

The President underlined the importance of regular high-level bilateral interaction, parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people contacts for imparting new impetus to Pakistan-Nigeria relations in diverse fields. The President called for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and suggested that greater number of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel may avail training facilities in Pakistan’s defence institutions.

The President called for cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism to eliminate this scourge. The President said that operation Zarb-e-Azb is proceeding successfully against the terrorists and extremists in Pakistan and it would continue till complete eradication of this menace.

The President extended his felicitation on the election of Mr. Muhammad Buhari as President of Nigeria and wished prosperity and peace in Nigeria. Senator Alh. Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wammakko said that Nigeria values its relations with Pakistan and is keen to expand bilateral trade and cooperation in all fields.
