Tehran: Caretaker director of National Iranian Gas Company says Pakistan has asked Iran to increase gas exports to the country to 50 million cubic meters per day.

NIGC head Hossein Bidarmaghz said Iran had already signed a contract to supply 21 million cubic meters of gas per day to Pakistan from beginning of 2014. “As energy demand of Pakistani industries is increasing, Pakistani officials have indicated their interest in importing 50 million cubic meters of Iranian gas,” IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

He said Pakistan Energy Minister Asim Hussain had asked for Iran to raise gas exports by about 30 million cubic meters during his recent visit to Iran. Bidarmaghz said Iran’s Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi would discuss various ways of expanding cooperation in gas trade in the region during his upcoming visit to Pakistan.
