Islamabad: The first shipment of 1200 kilogram Chaunsa variety mangoes will be sent on July 27, 2001 to United States by Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company PHDEC with support of Commerce Ministry.
“The first consignment will be sent on July 27, 2011. Last year PHDEC made arrangements to send mangoes to the U.S., but it could not materialize. However, this year it has been fully ensured that there are no hurdles,” a Commerce Ministry statement said Tuesday.
Pakistan has been working for long time to tap to U.S. market with its high quality mangoes. Chaunsa variety of Ali Tareen Farms has been selected to be sent to U.S. and first consignment will be of 1200 kg (approx).
It will be sent in reefer containers to maintain temperature as advised by supply chain experts. Pakistan’s Commercial Consulate in Chicago will receive mangoes and send it to other Pakistani Consulates in U.S. for further disbursement.
Senior Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Faheem said it was a turning point in mangoes export from Pakistan and expressed confidence that in view of their high quality they will become popular in international markets very soon.
