Pak-Iran bilateral consultations held

Islamabad: Islamabad and Tehran held bilateral consultations here Tuesday in which Pakistan delegation was led by Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Planning and Development while Iranian side was led by Mr. Ali Saeedlou the Deputy President on international Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A number of Deputy Ministers from different sectors represented the Iranian side. Whereas, Governor SBP, Chairman FBR Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Water & Power, Railways and Economic Affairs Division were amongst the senior officials from the Pakistani side.

The two sides reviewed bilateral economic relations including commerce, transport and communication, energy, railways, civil aviation and oil and gas sectors.

After the inaugural session, a number of technical groups were constituted to discuss issues in further detail. The groups were represented by senior officers of both sides from the respective sectors like energy, trade, railways and communications, petroleum and natural resources, civil aviation links and finance.

On the sideline of the Pak-Iran bilateral talks, a business to business meeting of delegates from the private sectors of both sides was also held on Monday.

The meeting identified tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade and expressed the resolve to remove obstacles impeding trade and agreed to further promote economic cooperation, investment and bilateral trade. Both sides also agreed to explore more avenues to increase bilateral trade to $ 5 billion mark.
