Over 700 billion development projects are ongoing in country in all the provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and are aimed to integrate north of the country with south

Islamabad, November 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Federal Secretary Communications and National Highway Authority’s Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar has said that over 700 billion worth of development projects are ongoing in the country today that are located in all the provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and are aimed to integrate the North of the country with its south.

The Chairman expressed these views while addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of Gojra-Shorkot (M-4) Motorway in which Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the Chief Guest. Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar said that with these highways and motorways the Gwadar port will get connected with the north of the country and links between east and west will also improve.

The Chairman NHA expressed the intention that the total length of motorways in the country will be brought to thrice its current length, i.e. from the present 690 kilometres it will become 2000 kilometres. He said that Gojra-Shorkot Motorway is 62 kilometres long and it will be completed in two packages. The first package is from Gojra to Tobatek Singh whereas the second is from Toba Tek Sing to Shorkot.

The two packages will cost a total of 17 billion rupees. The project PC-I was 21 billion but with a saving of 4 billion, it will now cost 17 billion rupees. The Chairman further said that projects under China-Pak Economic Corridor will usher in an era of progress and prosperity, especially to the areas along its Western Route, and it will considerably change the lives of its people.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif acknowledged the efforts of Chairman NHA with regard to the quality and speed of the projects. The ceremony was also addressed, including the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, by Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana, Member National Assembly Chaudhry Khalid Javed Warraich. Earlier, the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the ground breaking of the project and unveiled the memorial plaque.
