Over 1,600 buildings still under illegal occupation of Indian Army in IOK

Srinagar, February 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops and paramilitary forces are illegally occupying a large number of public as well as private buildings in the territory. An official document reveals that 1,648 buildings are still under the occupation of Indian forces, putting a question mark on the post 2002 claims by puppet regimes that they had “reduced the footprints of forces from civilian areas.”

It also states that 14 buildings, which were to be vacated by the Indian Army within six months following the 2013 Civil Military Liaison Conference, continue to be under their occupation. As per the document, as many as 278 government buildings, 1302 private buildings, 45 hotels, 5 cinemas and 18 industrial units are in unauthorized possession of the forces including Indian Army in the territory. “Cumulatively, as on date, 1648 premises are under the occupation of Indian armed forces. Of which, 647 buildings are under the Indian Army,” the report compiled in September 2015 says.
