Over 100 high delegates from 10 countries including India, Germany and Palestine vow to utilize resources for bringing peace and tranquility back to this region

Lahore, December 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Over 100 high profile delegates from 10 countries including India, Germany and Palestine on Monday vowed to utilize all available resources for bringing peace and tranquility back to this region that has immense potential to cater to the entire world. They were speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah welcomed the delegation while Vice President Kashif Anwar, Executive Committee members Mian Zahid Javaid, Mudassor Masood, Chaudhry Muhmmad Aslam, Muhammad Haroon Arrora, Iftikhar Bashir Chaudhry and former Executive Committee Member Rehmatullah Javaid also spoke on the occasion.

The delegation was headed by Chairman World Punjabi Congress Fakhar Zaman while Palestinian writer and former cultural advisor to Yasser Arafat, Dr Hannan Awaad, President International Board of Writers and Translators Mr Gino Leineweber from Germany, Mr. Pran Nevile from India, authored of an important book on Lahore, Dr Dalia Staponkute, a Lithuanian academic and member of International Board of Writers and Translators, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh, an Indian writer were prominent among other delegates.

Dr Hannan Awaad speaking on the occasion invited the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to bring a delegation to Palestine to interact with their Palestinian bothers. She said that despite all the oppression and suppression and the indifference of international peace forums, Palestinians’ struggle for independence would continue.

Mr Gino Leineweber from Germany shared his experiences of interaction with Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said that the Hamburg Chamber was playing a very pivotal role and the Lahore Chamber should strengthen its ties with other chambers of the world for the common cause of progress and prosperity through peaceful means.

The Chairman World Punjabi Congress Fakhar Zaman, earlier introduced the delegates and said that the second International Conference on Peace will be held in India (Patiala) in the month of March while the third one would in Holland.

He also hinted at inviting LCCI office-bearers to these conferences Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry appreciates the initiatives taken at public or private levels that ultimately lead to bring greater peace in this region.

He said that peace is a pre-requisite to economic activity whether generated through internal or external resources. The only way out is to combine all the forces together that are in favour and need of peace. We are required to identify the voices that may contribute to this cause. No matter how small or big they are, we have got to provide them a platform to launch their collective efforts for peace. The LCCI would like to spearhead such drive that is in the best interest of our economy.

He said that the Lahore Chamber responds very positively to every call made towards normalizing the relations particularly with neighbouring countries. We share a long border with India and are aware of the potential gains of keeping good relations with our counterparts. The outcome is only win-win situation for Pakistan and India otherwise we will keep ourselves away from those benefits which we have been denying since decades.

The LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar thanked the delegates for sparing time for the business community of Lahore. He also shared his experience of taking a big delegation to India to participate in PITEX and the hospitality given by the Indian counterparts. He said that there were no two opinions about it the peace was only solution to the challenges being faced by India and Pakistan.
