No Polio case was reported in last eight months in result of Anti Polio campaign

Karachi, May 26, 2015 (PPI-OT): The anti –polio campaign will continue in the city and sensitive union council and during the last eight months not a single case of polio was reported. This has been appreciated at international level and this was a good omen that this was recognized at international level.

This was stated by commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui while addressing a meeting held to review the anti polio campaign here at his office on Tuesday. The meeting which was also attended by various district health officers said that encouraging results are being achieved with the efforts of the government and specially by commissioner Karachi.

As per directives issued by Sindh chief minister next phase of anti-polio campaign will start from June one. Commissioner said that in June more than two lac children will be given polio drops in June. Commissioner said with the cooperation of UNICEF and health department anti-polio campaign was started in 11 sensitive union councils where polio cases were reported however in three union councils as per environment they were declared safe from polio.

Commissioner advised the polio team to work with zeal and dedication and a report should be presented to him weekly against the anti-polio campaign. Commissioner underlined the need to contact ulemas and community people so that children of the area could be reached easily for anti-polio campaign.

In a detailed report presented to commissioner by the health department 99 percent children have been given polio drops and positive results are being achieved in the continued anti-polio campaign. Commissioner said objective of this campaign was to encourage children for a healthy life and be safe form this deadly disease. He said we would achieve desired results by the campaign launched in sensitive areas.
