Netherlands Ambassador visits Islamabad Stock Exchange

Islamabad, June 25, 2012 (PPI-OT): Ambassador of Netherlands in Pakistan, Mr. Gajus Scheltema visited Islamabad Stock Exchange (ISE) today. The guest was warmly welcomed by the directors of Governing Board of ISE including Mian Ayyaz Afzal, Brig. (R) Fateh Khan Malik, Mr. Farrukh Younas, Mr. Mehmood Ellahi and also some other Members of the ISE. Welcoming to the Guest, Mian Ayyaz Afzal, the Managing Director of ISE, highlighted the role of capital market in the economy of Pakistan.

While terming Euronext, European electronic stock exchange based in Amsterdam and its subsidiaries in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom a success story, the MD ISE briefed about the demutualization law recently promulgated by the Government for demutualization of stock exchanges in Pakistan. Mian Ayyaz Afzal also briefed about the functioning of ISE and it’s overall performance in the region. Mr. Gajus Scheltema, expressed his delight on his visit to the ISE and expected that the relationship between the two countries will further enhance.

He appreciated the resilience of country’s economy despite several odds and war against terror. Several aspects of mutual cooperation were discussed with the guest including strategic partnership through demutualization of the bourse. At the closing, Brig (retd) Fathek Khan Malik, Director ISE thanked the Ambassador for visiting the ISE and expected that such visits would boost the investors’ confidence and will send a positive signal regarding the future of the stock markets in Pakistan.
