Nepalese Ambassador visits Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Islamabad, June 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): FPCCI will organize a solo exhibition in Kathmandu, Nepal and send a high level trade delegation to Nepal to explore the new export opportunities. This was stated by Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik in a meeting with Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal, the Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan at Federation House, Karachi. Both sides discussed various proposals and suggestion for the promotion of bilateral trade and economic relations and agreed to enhance the interaction between the business community of both the countries. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Shaheen Ilyas Sarwana, Vice President FPCCI.

Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik further stated that Pakistani products, particularly pharmaceuticals, textiles, pashmina lawn, textile made ups and allied products have great potential in Nepal which need to be marketed properly.

He further stated that Pakistan and Nepal are old friends but their trade relations do not reflect their friendship. Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik also asked the Nepalese Ambassador to bring a strong delegation in upcoming Expo, 2013 which would provide an opportunity to the business community of both the countries to come closer. He suggested that Nepal may offer special rates to Pakistani businessmen in order to encourage them to participate in fairs and exhibitions in Nepal.

Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal emphasized the need for exchanging business delegations for enhancing trade and promotion of investment opportunities between Nepal and Pakistan and assured his full support in this regard. He further stated that agriculture and tourism are the main areas where both countries can collaborate.

He further added that logistics issues, lack of communication and proper marketing are the main hurdles in the expansion of trade. Nepal is a landlocked country and it is difficult to transport freight. In this context, FPCCI should approach PIA to increase its flights to Nepal in order to facilitate businessmen.

Moreover, he stated that the trade ties have a much higher chance of improving as both the countries are important members of the SAARC, share common international views and enjoy good relations and background. He further stated that besides trade, there is an immense potential to cooperate in human development particularly in health and education sector and infrastructure development.
