Nawaz unveils economic revival plan for business community

Islamabad: The country is passing through tough times due to the wrong planning and policies of the Government. Political stability, end to corruption and good governance are essential for country’s economic reforms.

These remarks were made by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, while speaking at a diplomatic dinner hosted by Yassar Sakhi Butt, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) at his residence. A big gathering of Ambassadors, High Commissioners designated in Pakistan and diplomats graced the prestigious function.

Mian Nawaz Sharif said that protecting business community’s interests could be helpful in bringing foreign investment in the country, which would contribute positively to move the wheel of economy forward. He reiterated his party’s will of reforming current economic condition of the country by protecting investors and public interests.

He further said PML-N’s economic team has prepared a comprehensive economic revival plan for uplift of the country’s economy. He offered Mr. Yassar Sakhi Butt that he can send his economic team to ICCI for getting valuable input of business community on their issues that are hampering the growth of business activities.

He said that Pakistan was currently facing a serious energy crisis and the nation was suffering long hours of load shedding. Mian Nawaz Sharif said during my tenure, we had electricity surplus and we offered to export electricity to India but now the situation is opposite due to inconsistent policies for the last one decade. He said that during my tenure Pakistan was emerging as Asian Tiger as the country was enjoying 8.4 percent GDP growth but the bad policies of the present government have plunged the country into deep troubles.

PML-N President said that they have not been given enough time to complete their term according to the constitution. He said that during their tenure, they launched various development plans but unfortunately, those programs were discontinued by later governments and now the nation is facing its consequences.

In his welcome address, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President ICCI said that business community has been under great stress due to multiple factors which are now becoming a real challenge for their survival, so as our youth which comprises more than 60 percent of our population is desperately looking to be able to play its positive role as well in nation building.

ICCI President said that Pakistan being the front line state in the war against terror as a nation has made the greatest scarifies and as a result the people of Pakistan especially the business community has suffered tremendously due to the massive drop in foreign investment coming to Pakistan and one of the major reason for this drop being the negative perception by the world media.

Therefore its time that the diplomatic community should come forward and play its role in changing the perception about Pakistan in their respective countries which would definitely help Pakistan in coming out of this current crisis, he maintained.

Addressing the Ambassadors and foreign diplomats, Yassar Sakhi Butt said that the role of the diplomatic community could not be ruled out as it played a very important part in defining the direction of a country.
