Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources says all stakeholders were on-board to accelerate exploration and production activities in oil and gas sector across the country

Islamabad, November 25, 2015 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Wednesday said all stakeholders were on-board to accelerate exploration and production (E and P) activities in oil and gas sector across the country. Addressing the closing ceremony of a 2-day 22nd Annual Technical Conference here, he said the country needed an effective strategy to attain self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

He said the country’s gas deposits were depleting as 50 percent natural gas was being consumed in power generation, besides “its major share is used to meet domestic fuel needs.” “We have to be serious about the efforts to accelerate exploration and production activities,” he added. The conference, attended by representatives of over 30 E and P companies and a large number of students, was jointly organized by Pakistan Association of Petroleum Geo-scientific (PAPG) and Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Executive Director General of Policy Wing, Ministry of Petroleum Masood Nabi, Adviser on Petroleum and Natural Resources Zahid Muzaffar, Parliamentary Secretary Shahzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, Director General Petroleum Concessions (DGPC) Saeedullah Shah, Secretary Mines and Minerals Development Department Punjab Arshad Mehmood also attended the moot.

Earlier in a side session titled “Regulatory challenges in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector,” Jam Kamal said the ministry was making all-out efforts to streamline exploration and production matters pertaining to provinces especially in the post 18th amendment scenario. He said there was a need to remove some confusion about role and importance of the regulator that was looking into the matters of E and P companies.
