Minister of State Baligh Ur Rehman chairs advisory committee meeting

Islamabad, April 14, 2016 (PPI-OT):Minister of State Engr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman chaired the advisory committee meeting today. Integration of ICT in teaching Learning processes in schools, Reviving EMIS for a Proactive Role in Policy, Research, Planning and Management, and outline of sustainable development goals plan were part of the agenda.

Preparing children for the Digital World, Integrating ICT in Teacher Learning program through MS technologies, Equip children with Employable IT Skills, Setting up a chain of PC labs in schools and Teacher Training Institutes, Providing access to ICT in schools, Use ICT to strengthen teaching quality, Use ICT to enhance student learning, Develop complementary approaches to ICT in education, Development of capacity at the Federal Education Ministry and Provincial Education Departments were discussed in the meeting.

The present education system in Pakistan offers only minimal curricular resources for students. In Primary schools computer studies is just in textbooks only without any practical application. So we need to revise our ICT policy in a proper manner in order to compete with the digital world. Use EMIS data for empirical studies focusing on what works in education.

The basic purpose of the EMIS (Education Management Information System) is to enhance the capacity of NEMIS in the country, To employ new technological approaches such as using Mobile technology for data updates and verifications, Revive EMIS for informed policy making, planning, and management, To make National EMIS more comprehensive and holistic system which can keep record of Student achievement scores, attendance, and attrition, health, and sports, Info on all aspects of teachers and related dynamics, To devise a dynamic EGIS by merging EMIS databases with GIS databases, and to approach Universities where GIS studies are underway to join these efforts.

In the end advisory committee gave its suggestions and talk about the progress of different ongoing projects of Ministry of Federal education and professional Training. Targeted goals of the advisory committee were as follow; Every child of 5-9 will be ensured to be primary pass both through formal, non-formal, private and public Institutions by 2018, Dropout will be brought to minimum i.e., 10% by providing missing facilities, free text Books and financial incentives for girls and under privileged communities, Literacy to be raised to 70% with prime focus on deprived and remote areas, rural female, specially Baluchistan and KPK, Literacy will be linked with Skill-Training inclusive of community development, conservation of recourses, health, family life, coupled with employable entrepreneurial competence, Madaris will be given financial assistance to bring their Text Books at par with Normal Schools and curriculum will also be brought at par with general Education, Special Education Institutes will be expanded, teacher availability will be improved along with their competencies ultimately ensuring one teacher for one class, and Introduction of Formal Education in Deeni Madaris by 2018 as part of minimum standards.
