Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development presides over a meeting of representatives of Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association to discuss measures for increasing export of Pakistani work force to potential countries and enhancing foreign remittances

Islamabad, September 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development presided over a meeting of representatives of Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA) here to discuss possible measures for increasing export of Pakistani work force to the potential countries and enhancing foreign remittances.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary, OP and HRD, Director General, Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment and senior officers of the Ministry.

In his opening remarks, the Federal Minister emphasized for joint efforts by the private and public sector to maximize the export of manpower as reduction in unemployment is the one of the top priorities of the present government.

He emphasized that national interest should be preferred over self-interest. Various suggestions were considered during the meeting and it was decided to send delegations to various countries to explore more avenues for job opportunities abroad.

The delegations will visit Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar after Hajj. Necessary measures will also be taken to pursue Iraq, Libya and Kuwait for intake of the Pakistani workers. A representative of POEPA will also be included in the proposed delegations. It was also decided that the Federal Minister will invite Ambassadors of the respective countries to settle security clearance issues of the Pakistani intending emigrants.

The Federal Minister also asked the Private Promoters to reduce charges as intending emigrants mostly belong to labor class. He also urged upon all concerned to divert their system to E-Governance/E-gate to maintain data of outgoing and incoming emigrants.

The Federal Minister also pointed out that performance of some OEPs remained unsatisfactory as they sent few persons abroad for employment during the last three years and asked them to enhance their capacity and performance. Ministry of Interior will be requested to issue uniform driving licences as problems are being faced by Pakistani drivers abroad due to varied licences.

The Federal Minister also told the participants that his Ministry has already taken various steps to impart training to the unemployed youth intending to seek jobs abroad to train them in various trades as per requirement of foreign employers for which different proposals are under consideration including starting evening shifts in OPF schools though out the country. OEPs were also asked to consider possibility of establishing training centers by themselves to prepare skilled work force.
