Malaysia: Mahathir Mohamad says his party has mandate to form govt

In Malaysia, opposition alliance headed by veteran leader Mahathir Mohamad has achieved a historic election victory in the general elections.

The results from the Election Commission showed the opposition grouping won 115 seats over the threshold of 112 seats needed in parliament to form a government.

Mahathir Mohamad had earlier served as Prime Minister from 1981 to 2003.

Meanwhile, former ruler Mahathir Mohamad has said his party has a clear mandate to form a government in the country.

Addressing a news conference in Kulalumpur, ninety two year Malaysian leader insisted he should be immediately confirmed as prime minister.

Mahathir Mohamad said his coalition would not seek revenge but would “restore the rule of law”.
