Larkana Chamber of Commerce seeks TCP intervention for purchase of rice to ensure proper price

Naudero: Larkana Chamber of Commerce & Industry has sought intervention of Trading Corporation of Pakistan for purchase of rice to ensure reasonable price of the crop.

In a letter to the TCP, the LCCI stated that this year a bumper paddy crop of 3.0 to 3.5 million tons has been reported but the present paddy crop prices are prevailing low, despite the fact that there is no any fluctuation in the International Market. This is creating heavy problems for the growers and they are crying against this exploitation. Last year the paddy crop was sold for Rs.950 per 40 Kg but the present price offered is Rs.750 per 40kg, despite of the input cost increased manifold.

“So the growers must receive a price not less than Rs.900 per 40Kg,” letter urged.

“In this unstable situation, there is dire need of TCP to ensure proper prices, otherwise the prices will continue to remain low and the growers will be at mercy of exploiters. With the intervention of TCP to purchase and export the rice would really benefit the growers and farmers as well as lead to stabilization of the local market and it is expected that price would hover between Rs.900 to Rs.925 per 40Kg.”

LCCI president Khair Muhammad Shaikh requested TCP chief to take necessary steps for intervention to purchase paddy crop from growers that will save the growers from loss and Market will also be stabilized.
