Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges exchange of business delegations between Pakistan and New Zealand to realise true business potential

Lahore, February 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tuesday stressed the need for exchange of business delegations between Pakistan and New Zealand to realize true business potential and for enhancing two-way trade volume.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh and Vice President Mian Abuzar Shad were talking to High Commissioner-designate to New Zealand Zehra Akbari here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. LCCI Executive Committee Member Mian Zahid Jawaid Ahmad and former Senior Vice President Abdul Basit also spoke on the occasion.

The LCCI Senior Vice President said that huge scope for cooperation and Joint Ventures exists in Livestock, Dairy and Agriculture sectors as New Zealand is quite strong in these areas and sharing of expertise could do miracles for Pakistan. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that linkage with business houses in New Zealand is of utmost importance to increase bilateral trade and Pakistan’s High Commission play a very vital role in this regard.

He said that the fact remains that New Zealand has very small population of only 4.4 million people but sector-specific measures could lead to more business in various sectors. Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI Vice President Mian Abuzar Shad said that Pakistan’s High Commission should motivate foreign investors for investment in energy sector that offers rich dividends.

He said that any investment made in this particular area would not only be strengthening ties between Pakistan and New Zealand but it would also be opening up doors for more foreign investment. He also sought the High Commissioner’s help for enhancing Information Technology interaction.

He said Pakistan could win a substantial share in the international IT market by strengthening its cooperation with New Zealand. He further said that that there is dire need to improve the export of software products as our neighbouring country India is earning huge foreign exchange by exporting software to the outer world.

He said that both the High Commission and Chambers in Pakistan should work in unison to improve the soft image of Pakistan as this is the only issue that is biggest hurdle in the way of foreign investment. Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner said that business community in Pakistan needs to focus on trade with other regional trade blocs instead of focusing only the markets of Europe and United States.

She said that there is tremendous untapped potential in both the markets of New Zealand and Pakistan to boost economic cooperation as current volume of trade between Pakistan and New Zealand was stood around $150million that is not up to the potential.

She said that the business community would have to go non-traditional way to win the New Zealand market. She said that she would be doing her best for exchange of delegations so that the volume of two-way trade could be enhanced. The High Commission would take all possible measures to help promote Pakistan products in that market.
