Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hold Gilgit-Baltistan Investment Week

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has decided to hold Gilgit-Baltistan Investment Week in the month of September this year wherein the potential of Gilgit-Baltistan would be highlighted through weeklong exhibition and sector-specific seminars and discussions.

The decision was taken by LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik during a debriefing by Ms Talat Hafeez, the head of nine-member women delegation, who has recently returned from seven-day Gilgit-Baltistan visit.

The LCCI President, while addressing the delegates, said that there are no two opinions about it that Gilgit-Baltistan has a great potential and any investment in the area could change the fate of the country, if it is properly harnessed and local and foreign investors are invited and offered incentives. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would continue to play its role for the promotion of hidden treasures in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Ms Talat Hafeez informed the LCCI President that during their stay in Gilgit-Baltistan, the delegation had a number of high profile meetings including meeting with Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, Advisor to CM for Tourism, Sports, Culture & Youth Affairs Ms. Sadia Danish (MLA) and President GBCCI, Mr. Javed Hussain.

Besides having meetings with government functionaries and business counterparts, the LCCI Businesswomen delegation also visited institute of Gem Stone Cutting and Polishing, Carving and Engraving Training and Production Centre in Zulfiqarabad, Gilgit, where the delegates were briefed about various processes of gem making. Moreover Commissioner, Skardu also hosted a dinner in honour of LCCI Businesswomen delegation and discussed various issues related to women entrepreneurs development.

An MoU between LCCI and GBCCI was also signed to promote business and attract investment in the areas of spices, herbs, Gems & Jewellery, dry fruits and tourism.
