Kupwara residents march towards LoC to record protest

Srinagar, February 28, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, hundreds of residents of different parts of Kupwara district attempted to cross the Line of Control in protest against anti-people policies of the Indian authorities. On the ‘LoC Chalo’ call, people from different villages including Nachiyan, Bagbila, Hajinar, Khorpara, Gabra and Tangdhar took out a big rally from Tangdhar to Teetwal, yesterday, to get ration from Azad Kashmir as a mark of protest against the implementation of so-called food law, media reports said.

“Despite knowing that Karnah is a non-agricultural place where majority of the people work as conscripts with Indian Army and have no source of income, the authorities have implemented food law to starve us,” the reports quoted locals said.

The residents marched up to Chitrakote Tangdhar where huge contingent of Indian police, Army and CRPF personnel stopped them from marching towards the Line of Control. “People were only a few kilometres away from the LoC when they were stopped from proceeding ahead. They also held a sit-in protest.
