Kashmiri students face harassment at Indian university

Srinagar, September 27, 2016 (PPI-OT):Kashmiri students studying in Desh Bhagat University (DBU) at Amloh, in Indian state of Punjab, held protest demonstrations against ill-treatment meted out to them at the hands of local Hindu goons.

Scores of students from occupied Kashmir are studying different courses in the university.

A group of students told a Srinagar-based English newspaper over telephone that the other night local youth associated with fanatic Hindu organizations came and harassed them. “They damaged windowpanes and doors of our hostel rooms,” the Kashmiri students said.

The students maintained that the youth were carrying batons, bricks and stones. “They continued to pelt stones on our hostel for three hours,” the students said.

The next morning, the students took to streets and protested against the hooliganism unleashed against them.

Station House Officer, Amloh, Purshotam Singh Bal admitted that incident had taken place and said that they were investigating it.
