Karachi operation was started as a result of across the board institutional and political consensus: Prime Minister

Islamabad, December 07, 2015 (PPI-OT): “The Karachi operation was started as a result of across the board institutional and political consensus. The sole objectives of this operation were to bring the peace, stability and progress back to Karachi and to rescue the people of the city from the clutches of criminal and terrorist mafias who had made the city hostage for a long time.

The gains made by the sacrifices of the Law Enforcement Agencies with complete ownership of Federal and Provincial governments will not be allowed to be reversed under any circumstances as the Provincial government and its Chief Minister will be the biggest beneficiaries of its success;” the Prime Minister said this while chairing a high level meeting at Governor House Karachi to review ongoing Karachi operation and overall law and order situation in the Province.

The Prime Minister also remarked that the Karachi operation reflected the will and desire of the people of Pakistan at large, all of whom want the city to regain its lost glory and return to the path of progress and prosperity. The Federal and Provincial governments as well as the Law Enforcement Agencies are fully cognizant of the evolving challenges and will work jointly to solidify the gains made so far.

The Prime Minister highlighted the threat posed by recent spike in targeted killings of personnel of LEAs and stressed the need of evolving a comprehensive strategy to confront future challenges. The Prime Minister said that we need to move away from the routine briefings on number of arrests and acquittals and formulate a strategic way forward which can ensure long term peace and stability for the city. The COAS assured the participants of the unflinching resolve and commitment of LEAs to root out terrorism and organized crime from the city.

The meeting was attended by the COAS Gen. Raheel Sharif, Governor and Chief Minister Sindh, Federal Ministers for Interior and Defence, DG ISI, Corps Commander Karachi and other high ranking civil and military officials of Federal and Provincial governments and LEAs. The meeting was briefed by Corps Commander Karachi, Chief Secretary Sindh, DG Rangers and IGP Sindh regarding the current status and challenges faced by the operation and the way forward.
