Karachi city government sign MoU with Japan International Cooperation Agency for infrastructural uplift in industrial zones
Karachi: City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) mainly for infrastructural development of international standards in industrial zones of the city.
“The construction of Mehran Highway on the cost of Rs 188.8 million has been started after the inking of MoU between CDGK and JICA,” said Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed while talking to media at Civic Centre.
The MoU was signed between Administrator Karachi and JICA representative Nozomu Ono. Deputy Counsel General Japan Massamichi Abe and CDGK officials were also present on the occasion.
Syed said the rain-water drains would also be established on both flanks of the highway after it completes. He informed that in the next phase construction work of road from Cattle Colony to Port Qasim would begin, while in a third phase construction of Quaidabad to Steel Town National Highway would be carried out.
Administrator said the condition industrial zones in Karachi was not better, mainly infrastructure and roads and stressed carrying out survey in this regard.
Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said that JICA had assured city government that Government of Japan would construct the 7 and a half kilometre portion of Mehran Highway provided CDGK construct the earlier portion of Mehran Highway from Hospital Roundabout to Landhi Cattle Colony and Railway Track in four month’s time.
Administrator Karachi also appreciated the survey of transport system of Karachi by JICA which was conducted recently. He said the cooperation and collaboration of JICA would help motivating Japanese investors to invest in Karachi.
