Karachi Chamber of Commerce to host lunch for Indian Commerce Minister next month

Karachi: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry will host lunch for Indian Commerce, Industry & Textiles Minister Anand Sharma here next month and organize meeting between businessmen of both countries. KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad Saturday in interactive session with visiting Indian Delegation led by Gautam Ghosh, Director & Head of South Asia, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry FICCI & Manish Mohan, Director, Confederation of Indian Industries CII, said KCCI firmly believes that both countries will have to demonstrate greater political will to foster ties and accord priority to trade.

He said both Governments, besides opening new land routes, should positively consider to connect Mumbai with Karachi through land, air and sea links as businessmen are serious to maintain two-way trade with India owing to lower cost and minimum logistics charges.

He stressed need to accelerate pace of Confidence Building Measures and bring policy shift while giving priority to trade rather than political conflicts. He called for building stakes at public level, enhance public-to-public and business-to-business contacts. Businessmen and industrialists must not fear that India has edge on balance of trade because Pakistan is maintaining similar situation in Pak-China trade where China has edge over trade balance.

He said KCCI gave its proposal to Commerce Ministry on Customs Cooperation Agreement, Mutual Recognition/ Certification Agreement & Redressal of Grievances Agreement to be signed likely during visit of Indian Minister next month. He voiced for visa liberalization for businessmen who should be issued multiple visas without restriction of destination and with exemption of police reporting.

Gautam Ghosh & Manish Mohan briefed on agreements to be signed during visit of Sharma and said Indian businesspersons will meet their Pakistani counterparts to explore business prospects.
