Karachi Chamber of Commerce slams resumption of load shedding

KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has strongly criticised Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) for once again resuming load shedding in the industrial areas of Karachi.

Muhammad Saeed Shafiq, President of KCCI and Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chairman, Sindh Board of Investment & former President KCCI in a statement said that whenever there is a shortfall in gas supply—whether industry is required to be shaded or not, they start massive load shedding mainly to blackmail government of Pakistan as KESC definitely knows about voice of industry.

In fact it was agreed in clear terms that in case of supply of gas does not go below 180, industry would not be subjected to load shedding. KESC announced Saturday 2 spells of 4 hours each, in a manner where industry suffers most, and they have planned that both shifts are disturbed and industry loses heavily and they raise hue and cry and the government of Pakistan gives in to the whims of KESC.

It came into notice that KESC is not paying dues to SSGC—which have risen to more than Rs 30 billion, while outstanding dues of PSO also have become a cause for concern. They said there is definite conspiracy against people of Karachi, wherein consumers are paying their dues on time and KESC is not paying its dues to SSGC and PSO, the “where are these funds going?”
