JKYJA celebrates World Press Freedom Day

Srinagar, May 03, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association (JKYJA) held a meeting at its head office in Srinagar in connection with World Press Freedom Day. President of the association, Ajaz Ahmad War chaired the meeting. Many diverse issues with reference to media paradigms in Jammu and Kashmir were discussed in the meeting.

President Ajaz Ahmad War addressing the meeting said that quality journalism was very much needed as it enabled citizens to make informed decisions about development in their respective societies. It also works to expose diverse vices like injustice, corruption and nepotism, he added.

The Chief Media Spokesperson of JKYJA, Rameez Makhdoomi on the occasion said, “We need journalism for humanity. Young journalists of Kashmir present hope as they have lot of creativity, positive dynamism and can change all the paradigms of journalism towards betterment in our part of the world.
He said that restrictions on freedom of press were an important challenge facing journalistic fraternity of Kashmir.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Vice President Bilal Furqani stressed the young journalists to maintain highest media ethics while reporting and urged upon the policy-makers to frame such policies that journalists get due incentives and respectable earnings for their hard works. The JKYJA also called upon the authorities to ensure more freedom of speech to journalists and draw a policy outline to make journalism an attractive profession in the territory.
