JKPM demands release of Kashmiri political prisoners

Srinagar, July 03, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, has demanded release of all Kashmiri political prisoners before Eid-ul-Fitr so that they are able to celebrate this auspicious occasion with their families.

APHC leader and the Acting Chairman of JKPM, Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement issued in Jammu said that hundreds of political leaders and activists had been put in jails for their political beliefs. He criticized the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, for pursuing anti-people policies. He said that when out of power, the pro-India political parties in Jammu and Kashmir shed crocodile tears over the suffering and victimization of Kashmiris but the moment they entered the corridors of power they forgot everything and become tools of New Delhi for causing sufferings and pain to the people of Kashmir.

He said the pro-India politicians had always unleashed a reign of terror and intimidation in occupied Kashmir just to protect their chairs. He said that like her predecessors, Mehbooba Mufti too forgot her promises made to the people of Kashmir during the election campaign.

The APHC leader dared the puppet Chief Minister to release political prisoners and other innocent people detained for their political convictions, if she had the power to do so. He said that the so-called rulers in Jammu and Kashmir did not have any freedom to make even small decision of setting free an innocent person from the jail.

The JKPM leader said that on the auspicious occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr hundreds of families were looking forward to the release of their near and dear ones who were languishing in different jails. He said, it has been a practice the world over that even hardcore criminal are set free on such festivals. He said following this known practice, Mehbooba Mufti should order the release of all political prisoners and innocent youth and help them celebrate the Eid with their families.
