JKLF takes out protest rally against unabated killings

Srinagar, February 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested the leaders and dozens of activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front during a protest march in Srinagar that was organized against the unabated killing spree of the Kashmiris by Indian troops and the arrest of renowned Kashmiri academician Professor Syed Abdur Rehman Gilani.

Mr Gilani was arrested on sedition charges in New Delhi, yesterday. The protest march in Srinagar was moving from Abi Guzar towards Lal Chowk but was intercepted by Indian police when it reached the Press Colony. Earlier, hundreds of people gathered at Abi Guzar Chowk and offered funeral prayers in absentia for Zikra Begum, widow of prominent martyred leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, in Srinagar.

After the funeral prayers, the protest rally was taken out from Abi Guzar towards Lal Chowk where according to program a protest sit-in was to be held. As this rally reached near press enclave, police and forces in large numbers intercepted and cordoned it. JKLF leaders and activists resisted the police move and after stiff resistance police arrested JKLF Vice Chairman Advocate Bashir Ahmad Butt along with leaders Muhammad Siddeeq Shah, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Professor Javed, Syed Nisar Jeelani, Muhammad Azeem Zargar, Ghulam Rasool Hazari, Ali Muhammad (Achen), Shakir Ahmad Aahnagar, and Muhammad Afzal Sheikh and detained them at police station Kothibagh.

Hundreds of participants of the protest rally raised slogans in favor of martyrs Shaista Hameed and Danish Mir of Pulwama. Participants also raised slogans against unabated killings by Indian trigger happy forces.
